SUMMARY: Today we went back to the beginning of the book to dig deeper and check for understanding. We also practiced finding the gist of multiple paragraphs. Remember, the gist is the 'big idea', or what the text is mostly about.
HOMEWORK: Monday's homework is matching the vocabulary words with the definitions. DO NOT DRAW LINES!!! Read the instructions carefully to complete the task.

SUMMARY: Today we practiced finding main ideas and supporting details for the introduction and the chapter "A Black and White World". Then, we turned used the main idea/details chart to help write a summary. This is task you will have to complete on Friday's assessment.

ASSESSMENT: On Friday, you will be given a short section of text to read, then fill out a Main Idea/Supporting Details chart. After you fill out the chart, write a brief summary in paragraph form. There will also be a short section about identifying verbs and verb tenses.
A summary should include:
Introduction
title of chapter
name of book
author
context of the section you are summarizing
Main Idea
Supporting Details (2 or 3)
at least one should be a direct quote (with page number)
