Summary: Today we learned how to identify homophones, words with the same pronunciation but different spelling and meaning. We also did a comprehension check for poetry concepts, to help determine which areas need more focus. Last, we learned about the different types of rhyme:
Perfect Rhyme - The final stressed syllables of the words sound exactly the same.
Slant Rhyme - The vowel sounds are similar, but the consonants may differ, or vice versa.
Eye Rhyme- Words look like they should rhyme based on spelling, but do not rhyme when spoken.
Internal Rhyme - Rhyming words appear within a single line of poetry.
End Rhyme - Rhyming words occur at the end of lines.

SUMMARY: Today we continued working on our opinion essay. The goal was to complete the conclusion. (Activity 16 + outline + conclusion paragraph)
HOMEWORK: What is the gist of each paragraph. Read and highlight any phrases or sentences related to the main idea, then use that information to help write a short gist for the paragraph.
SUMMARY: Today students completed their essay (Activity 18), and used the rest of their class time to either practice Freckle, or complete research for the HW.

SUMMARY: Today students were given iPads to complete step one of the end of unit task. The focus question is "Why is Jackie Robinson an important figure in American history? How did his actions contribute to the fight for equality?". Tomorrow, they will use their graphic organizers to type their 4 paragraph essay, directly on the Keynote app.
